Design and Block Print a Lampshade

Description Design, block print and make your own lampshade! Join guest tutor and print-maker Aidan Liggins on this full day workshop, where you will be getting your hands stuck in to designing and printing your very own unique lampshade using a hand carved lino block stamp. During the session you will learn the basics of block printing onto fabric from composition, carving and printing techniques. You will then go onto to make your own lampshade out of your hand printed fabric, creating a unique handmade piece for your home. Your tutor: Aidan Liggins Aidan is a printer and maker of patterns and beautiful fabrics with a goal to create fabrics and pieces for the home which last and are loved for a whole lifetime. She believes that the creative process and things we have in our home should be kind to the planet and celebrate slow creation and consumption of products to instill quality and foster traditions. All fabric she uses is 100% organic linen and hemp she prints with water based inks and dyes using natural dyes from her local environment. This is integral to her practise and is something she is continually looking at in her printing processes, how she can reduce or re-use waste created through to reducing packaging and using re-used or recycled wherever possible. Aidan prints from her studio at The Arthouse in Wakefield, Yorkshire and is a member of the Heritage Craft Association to celebrate heritage crafts throughout the UK. Experience level The course is suitable for complete beginners or for anyone with a little knowledge wishing to learn more. Some printmaking techniques in this workshop involve hand-carving tools and may require moderate hand strength and dexterity. What’s included? All basic materials such as fabric, tools, lampshade making kit and equipment are provided. What’s next? After attending this course you can join our workshop as a member and continue to use our facilities to make and develop your own work. Such a transfer will be on condition that we are informed in writing of your intentions four weeks prior to the originally booked event. Bookings can only be transferred once. If you are unable to attend, and not in a position either to transfer to another event, then the following charges will apply: Cancellation charges 16-12 weeks before the course: 50 % of the fee will be retained by WYPW Less than 12 weeks before the course: 100% of the fee will be retained by WYPW Please note that full payment is required for non-attendance on a booking that has been transferred.
