Description Join guest tutor and printmaker Jenny McCabe for a 2day workshop exploring the art of collagraph using cardboard and carborundum.  Collagraph printing is a very versatile method of printmaking which involves making a plate from scratch by collaging materials together and creating a surface of interesting textures and marks. Using cardboard as a starting point, you can carve into the surface to create darker marks and areas of tone, you can use glues and varnishes to create highlights and brush marks and add collaged materials such as wallpaper, textiles and carborundum to make different textures to build up depth and interest in your designs.  Using recycled packaging materials like tetra pak juice cartons or anything with a shiny surface you can explore bringing a drawn element into the plate and it is easier to cut the plate into shapes where you play with building up a print made of multiple plates and layers.  Over the 2 day course you will get chance to make multiple plates and experiment with different textures and shaped plates, combining plates to create interesting compositions.  You can work abstractly or from source material and you will learn how to design a plate and transfer imagery to the surface and what materials are best for different ideas.  Its a great fun process that allows for lots of play and happy accidents. we will be printing our plate the intaglio way using etching presses but you can also print successfully in relief by hand so there is plenty of possibility for developing further work.   This course is great for beginners or artists trying out something new, come with an open mind, prepared to play and expect to take home lots of prints.  Your tutor : Jenny McCabe Jenny McCabe is an intaglio printmaker working mainly with metal plate etchings and card collagraph plates.
